Elizabeth Laird — known as “The Hug Lady” — has made it her personal mission to hug every returning soldier in the Fort Hood community. Since 2003, Laird has hugged around 500,000 soldiers. But the warriors who love her recently got some bad news. Laird, who has been battling breast cancer for years, was just hospitalized due to complications.

Her son put up a GoFundMe page to help pay for her medical expenses. They set a goal of $10,000, and within a week, they received over $74,000!

It’s great to see these soldiers show their appreciation for one of their biggest fans. We’re sending happy thoughts to Ms. Laird! We hope that she’ll be able to get out there and hug some more soldiers soon!
