It’s a theory of human aesthetics which states that when “an object has human features that look and move almost but not exactly like natural human beings, it causes a response of revulsion among some human observers.” These mannequins are some of the creepiest examples of this theory. Not that they look almost exactly like humans – some don’t look like humans at all – but they are close enough to just creep everyone out.
